Atrium House
A double-height atrium linking two wings of a family home, treated as a single continuous interior.
Two existing wings of the house had never spoken to each other. The new atrium is the conversation — a double-height volume with a glazed north wall and a single flight of open-tread stairs.
Materially the space is restrained: micro-cement floors, white plaster, one wall of stained timber. All the warmth comes from furniture and textiles.
The stair was the hardest element to resolve. It is structurally a single folded steel plate, finished in the same tone as the floor so it recedes.
